                      Algonac Given a Scorching
                      
                The business portion of the village
              of Algonac received a scorching to the
              extent of $20,000 on the night of the
              11th. The only means of fighting the
              fire, a hand engine, was brought out
              and a bucket brigade was formed. The
              water works are incomplete and a 
              special election was called for the 
              13th to vote on the question of furn-
              ishing more money to finish them. There
              was considerable opposition to it last
              summer but it now looks as if the pro-
              position would carry unanimously in
              order to afford Algonac a water supply
              when needed at a fire.
