A. T. Andreas & Co., Chicago - 1883 [558] AUGUST BEREND, proprietor of planing mill, is a native of Germany and was born October 27, 1828. Emigrated to America in 1856, and came to Michigan the same year; located at Detroit; came to Port Huron in 1867, and engaged in his present business, and has carried it on for fifteen years, and has a good trade. He belongs to the order of I.O.O.F., Knights of Pythias and the German Society. In 1856, he married Matilda Hartz, of Germany. She died in 1868. They had seven children; only one daughter, THERESA, survives. In 1869, he married CHARLOTTE KISTLER, a native of Germany. They have four children - OTTO, MENA, AUGUST, LOTTIE. ===========================================================================
