                        CAPT. F. W. BARNES DEAD.
                        
              CAPT. F. W. BARNES, a lake veteran, died at
            Muskegon on May 2. CAPT. BARNES had sailed 
            the lakes nearly half a century, and was
            particularly well known at lake Michigan
            ports. He commanded the schooner Lyman M.
            Davis from her advent until 1892, when ill
            health compelled him to retire from the
            water.
