HIRAM E. STAPLES, who repre- sented the second district of Muskegon County in the legislature of 1885, died August 13, 1895, from the effects of a surgical operation, performed that day. Mr. STAPLES was born near Poughkeepsie, N.Y., in 1811. In 1848 he, with his family, removed to Ravenna, Ohio and in 1851, he removed to Michigan, locating at Hillsdale. In 1857 he came to what was then known as White River country, now as Whitehall. Here he occupied a small farm. To the people of the village he was affection- ately known as GRANDPA STAPLES. He leaves a wife who is also well ad- vanced in years, and a daughter, Mrs. JENNIE LAKE. ===========================================================================
