LONG LAFAYETTE C. LONG, one of the old- est settlers of Pleasanton, passed away at his home on Nov. 5, 1919, at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 12 days. MR. LONG came to Pleasanton from the southern part of Michigan in the fall of 1867, soon after being mustered out of the army. He enlisted in the 12th regiment, company D, in Michi- gan, serving four years and nine months in the Civil war. He settled on the farm which has been his home ever since he was mar- ried to Miss MARY ELLEN PRESTON of Freesoil in 1872. Four children were born to this union. The wife of the deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. PRESTON, who were among the early pioneers of Freesoil township. They home they owned is now the property of the BURHAKKI heirs and many of the homes of this village are built upon lots which formerly were a part of the PRESTON estate. The three sons are ALVIN, who is at home, HIRAM, who is a minister at Buchanan, N.D., and LOUIS, who serv- ed in the World was and is ill at a hospital in Saginaw. The daughter, IDA MAY, preceeded her father to the other land. He leaves a widow, a sis- ter, three brothers, and five grand- children, besides many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Hoons of Arcadia, assisted by Rev. Schumaker, at Pleasanton Cen- ter M.E. church Sunday, Nov. 9. Bur- ial was made at Pleasanton cemetery. Young soldiers served as pall bearers.
