DEPEW. The end came peacefully at 8:30 Monday even- ing at his home at 104 south Gaylord avenue. The direct cause was hem- morhage of the lungs, the result of a cold which he contracted five weeks ago. MR. DEPEW was a very familiar figure in the city. He came here 43 years ago and during that time saw Ludington grow into a city. As a veterinary surgeon, which he practiced for many years, he was well known throughout the county. His death marks another step in the thinning of the ranks of the veterans of the Civil war. MR. DEPEW would have been 83 years of age had he lived until Sun- day. He was born at Clifton Springs, Ontario county, New York, of French and German ancestry. After serving in the Civil war he was married to Miss ELIZA A. WILSON, at Kewaunee, Ill. They came to Ludington a short time later, where they have since re- sided. Deceased is survived by his widow, a half-brother, WILLIAM ELZEA of Big Rapids, and a brother-in-law, DeGROVE PADGET, of this city. He was a mem- ber of the Odd Fellows and was at one time affiliated with the Grand Army of the Republic. The funeral, which will be in charge of the Odd Fellows, will be held from the home at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Inter- ment will be made in the city ceme- tery. =========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more information for Mason County, MI by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/mi/mason/ ===========================================================================
