The teachers in the building, to whom the honor of naming it had been given, decided that it should be called the Luther H. Foster school in memory of L. H. Foster, who organized the first public school in the early days when Ludington was only a village, and whose assassination by a burglar on the night of June 29, 1878, marked one of the saddest indicents of the early history of this city. It is indeed a touch- ing tribute to the man who devoted so much of his valuable time to the cause of education. ==========================================================================
