H. Elsworth For 36 years ALBERT BIGSBY has been on his present farm near the Riverton station. July 27, 1865, just after the close of the war, he landed at Pentwater from a boat that had cleared from Chicago. He footed it 12 miles and reached the heart of what is now Riverton town- ship. Since then this neighborhood has been his home. His boyhood days were spent in Berrien county. On August 9th, 1862, he enlisted as a private in company B, 17th Michigan infantry. His regiment was with the army of the Potomac and went through 12 big battles. Much of the time MR. BIGSBY was a member of the head- quarter's guard of which GEORGE GOODSELL, now deceased, was captain. He was mustered out of the service in 1865 and in July of the same year began his career in Mason county. ===========================================================================
