              Veteran Lake Captain
                Is Dead at Manistee

              Manistee, Mich., Feb. 28. - CAPTAIN
            "ED" HANSEN, 60 years old, sailor of
            the salt seas and the Great Lakes for
            46 years, is dead here of cancer after
            nine months' illness. He was born in
            Norway and began sailing when he was
            14. After nine years on the ocean he
            came to Manistee and soon became a
            captain on Great Lakes ships. Ten
            years ago he entered the United States
            lightship service as captain of the
            Manitou lightship, which winters in
            Manistee.
