DAVID BETHUNE ELSEY, 71, former resident here, and sailor on the Great Lakes for 40 years, who died in Noble sanitarium, Detroit, Monday, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's church here. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery. Captain ELSEY is survived by his widow, one son, DAVID ELSEY, Jr., and one daughter, Miss DORIS ELSEY. He was born in New Baltimore, Feb. 19, 1859, the son of the late GEORGE ELSEY, who was also a lake captain. Captain ELSEY entered the service of the Inter- lake Steamship company as captain in 1894. He re- mained with this company until he retired six years ago. From the old wooden vessel days, the whaleback type of craft to the modern ore carrier are the steps which Captain ELSEY saw take place in the marine shipping industry during his career. In 1907, he was captain of the Charles Eddy, a wooden boat, which burned on Lake Huron near Port Huron. Captain ELSEY, his wife, and 22 members of the crew were rescued by the City of Mackinaw, a passenger ship. ===========================================================================
