November 15, 1879

              CAPT. ELI BOURCHARD, father of CAPT. E. A. BOURCHARD,
            of the steamer Mary, died at Staten Island, N.Y., on
            the 25th ult., aged 87 years. Previous to his death he
            was the oldest lake captain living. He was pilot in the
            U.S. revenue service for a number of years. He came to 
            Mackinac in 1830, to which place his remains will be
            brought for interment at the close of navigation.
