Operating a tug for the past several years CARPENTER was known throughout the district and in marine circles and was looked upon as the "old man" of the Keweenaw waterways. He sailed on a number of vessels during his life and was employed as engineer on the following boats: Golden Eagle, Donken, Robinson, Maytham, Bob Anderson, Coral Shelden and others. He was chief on the Nellie Cotton and Tug Valerie. He was one of the oldest members of the Great Lakes Tug Mens' association. Sur- viving are the widow and several children.
