Bound Ashtabula to Racine along with two other schooner- barges in tow of the steamer NASHUA. As a storm lashed the treacherous narrows of the Straits the YOUNG began to sink and her towline was either broken or cut. It wasn't a sudden sinking as the crew had enough time to gather sails and rigging before making their escape.
