                   Missed the harbor at St. Joseph in a northwesterly
                gale and snowstorm.  Stranded on a sand bar to leeward but
                heavy seas washed her off the bar and back out into the
                lake, finally going ashore at Lakeside twenty miles south
                of St. Joseph.  The half frozen crew was taken off by Capt.
                William Lyman Stevens and the St. Joseph life-saving crew.
