                   After fire was discovered panic stricken
                 passengers jumped from the boat into the frigid
                 waters of Lake Michigan and were lost. Many were
                 rescued by the schooner TRAVELLER, propeller
                 ILLINOIS and several other vessels in the area.
                 The cause of the fire was never determined.
