Lloyd TONNAGE: 727.9 gt DIMENSIONS: 194.9 x 33.4 x 13.8 CASUALTIES: 9 - 10 [all] The LUCERNE left Ashland, WI., on the 15th with 1,256 tons of iron ore on board bound for Cleveland. The barometer was indicating good weather as she headed for the Soo where she expected to meet up with the steamer RALEIGH. Driven back by a northeast headwind the LUCERNE headed for the shelter of Chequamegon Bay but never made it. Her anchor was dropped about a mile from the light house where she was found lying stern on to the beach, pounded to pieces with three of her crew dead in the rigging. ======================================================================== Sources: R.
