Abel, Buffalo MASTER: TONNAGE: 636.47 gt DIMENSIONS: 184 x 23 x 13 CASUALTIES: 0 She was bound from Chicago to Buffalo carrying 40,000 bushels of corn when she was driven on Racine Reef by a heavy southwest gale which was called the heaviest in years. Her owner abandoned her to the underwriters on the 15th. Collision with propeller ROANOKE at Buffalo. Collision with the schooner SAWYER in July, 1871. Collision with schooner WILLIS off Point Pelee in November, 1872. WILLIS sunk and reported as a total loss. Collision with the schooner NABOB in the Straits on July 13, 1873. Little damage to the JONES. Sold to Wm. Able and Wm. Bain by M.N. & H. R. Jones for $40,000 in 1873. Built as a bark. Rig changed to three-and-after schooner in 1875.
