Harrison TONNAGE: 419.53 gt DIMENSIONS: 155 x 30 x 12 CASUALTIES: 11 SURVIVORS: 1 Left Chicago on September 21, at about 6 o'clock p.m., bound for Buffalo with 27,700 bushels of corn. The weather was fair until about noon on the 22nd when the wind shifted and conditions detiorated into a strong gale. Foundered about 3 miles south of S. Manitou Island. Only the captain survived the sinking. Some accounts state that "children" of Capt. Harrison were lost in the sinking. Capt. Wm. O. Harrison only had 2 children by his first wife, the son survived and was age 16 when Capt. Harrison was lost over- board from the KERSHAW in 1877. Incomplete list of victims: Sidney M. Harrison, first mate (brother of Capt. Harrison) James Wilson, second mate J. Babcock, cook Christopher Olsen, sailor five other sailors - names not known Harriet Harrison, wife of Capt. Harrison Estella Harrison, only daughter of Capt.
