TONNAGE: 305 gt DIMENSIONS: 141 x 26 x 11.5 CASUALTIES: 6 (of 7) The WILLIAM HOME, along with two other consorts, left Manistique on 24 September 1894 in tow of the steamer F. R. BUELL. She was loaded with 579 tons of pig iron for Buffalo. Later that night, in a southeast gale, her deck load shifted and the HOME heeled over. With water pouring into the hold, her crew tried to signal the BUELL. Getting no response from the steamer the HOME'S crew cut her tow- line and started for shore under sail. Within 30 minutes the HOME went to the bottom. Her crew had taken to the yawl which soon capsized in the breakers. The sole survivor, Anton Minga, floated ashore by grasping onto a line attached to the overturned yawl. He was picked up by lighthouse keeper Joe Fountain.
