                   Downbound with corn from Chicago to Kingston, Ont., 
                 when they struck Spectacle Reef in rough seas. After
                 pounding for a brief period it worked off and began 
                 to sink, filling so rapidly that the crew had barely
                 enough time to escape in the yawl boat.
