Sylverster, Toronto MASTER: Capt. James Jackman TONNAGE: 315 t. DIMENSIONS: 120.5 x 23.2 x 9.3 CASUALTIES: 0 Bound Toronto to Oswego with lumber consigned to E. W. Rathbone & Co., and Crane, Belden & Co. Upon reaching Oswego harbor she was taken in tow by the tug CUMMINGS but heavy seas caused the FOSTER to surge in one direction and the CUMMINGS in another, snapping the hawser and sending the FOSTER towards the beach under the fort bank. Twice the CUMMINGS was able to get a line to the schooner but it broke each time. The tug was forced to abandon the effort and turned back as the FOSTER was hurled against the rocks. The schooner's crew of 7, and the vessel's dog, were rescued by Capt. Blackburn and the Oswego life-saving crew. Her insurance had expired eighteen hours before she wrecked.
