Smith TONNAGE: 174.12 gt DIMENSIONS: 122 x 24 x 9.5 CASUALTIES: None of 5 Loaded with 116 cords of beechwood consigned to Chicago parties, the FORREST was attempting to go out in tow of the tug E. G. MAXWELL but encountered heavy seas before reaching safe water. Her tow line parted and the FORREST struck ground, undershipping her rudder. Her starboard anchor was dropped but also quickly parted leaving her to drift upon the beach where she went to pieces.
