TONNAGE: 183.99 gt DIMENSIONS: 107 x 24.6 x 10 CASUALTIES: 4 Nov. 24, 1874 - Aground at Port Maitland and reported as lost. Capt. Joseph C. Pease (owner & master), Charles Hurd (seaman from Oswego), Lizzie Sullivan (cook) and Thomas Brown (seaman) died of exposure. The steam tug SARAH BRYANT, of Buffalo, went to render assistance, removing the frozen dead bodies and saving part of the cargo. For this humane act the BRYANT was seized by the Canadian authorities and subjected to 30 days' detention as well as a fine. The FORD was towed to the Erie Basin by the tug BILL MORSE. Libelled for towing bills in August, 1875, and sold for $340 by the U.S. Marshal on November 5th.
