                   Under tow of the steamer CHARLES EDDY when she parted
                her towline and foundered in a heavy gale. The entire stern
                of the NEWELL A. EDDY washed up on the N. E. shore of Bois
                Blanc Island.  Her wreckage was located in 1992 lying 165
                feet down just north of Raynolds reef by the University of
                Michigan research vessel LAURENTIAN.
