Black TONNAGE: 1506 gt DIMENSIONS: 244.7 x 36.4 x 19.2 CASUALTIES: None of 20 CONTINENTAL had left St. Ignace bound for Manitowoc, WI., where she was scheduled for repairs at Manitowoc Dry Dock. Capt. Black became disoriented in a snowstorm and ran aground on a sandbar. Initial salvage attempts were unsuccessful. Towards the end of December another attempt was made by Reid Wrecking Co., of Port Huron, MI. At the end of January the attempt was given up. Her hull was full of ice and breaking up. Locals had helped them- selves to anything of value.
