Alexander Gordon, Kincardine TONNAGE: 256 gt, 243 nt DIMENSIONS: 131.2 x 26.3 x 11.3 CASUALTIES: 4 of 6 Bound for Kincardine from Cleveland with coal for the Kincardine waterworks when she was driven hard aground 300 yards from Kincardine harbor. Four volunteers ashore manned a fishboat and took the crew off but, as they were casting off from the wreck, a tremendous wave lifted the fishboat and smashed it against the side of the wrecked schooner. In an instant it filled with water leaving all ten occupants in the frigid water. Two of the lifesavers and two of the crew regained the ANN MARIA. Little Tom McGaw, along with Dan Matheson, Bob Saunders and Bob Green launched the yawl boat from the schooner WANDERER and rowed to the rescue. Lost were: Capt. Alexander Gordon, Kincardine Perry Bond, sailor, Marine City, MI Stephen Ryan, sailor, Alpena, MI Mrs. Kennedy, cook, Alpena, MI William Furguson, lifesaver, Kincardine, Ont. The rescuers, (Big) Tom McGaw, Wat McGaw, John McGaw and Billy Ferguson were cousins. The anchor from the ANN MARIA was salvaged and is displayed in Victoria Park.
