She was able to continue her voyage but it was decided that repairs would be too costly and she was sold for scrap. 11 Nov. 1960 - A collision with the German freighter BETEIGEUZE, six miles north of Port Huron, left a 30 foot gash in one side of the ALGOSOO. In the previous 24 hours the German boat had crashed into the brand new 4 million dollar bridge spanning the Saginaw river. When freed it ran aground on a mudbank while trying to avoid hitting another bridge.
