Royes, Michigan Log Towing Co., Saginaw, MI MASTER: Dorin Elliott TONNAGE: 320.46 gt DIMENSIONS: 124 x 24.5 x 12 CASUALTIES: none The tugs ACME and RELIANCE, towing 4,500,000 feet of logs, were caught on the open lake in a savage northwest gale that swept the lakes for two days. The pair abandoned the raft of logs and were running for shelter when the ACME foundered. Her crew were rescued by the RELIANCE. This same gale wrecked over a dozen vessels inlcluding the big propeller DEAN RICHMOND off Dunkirk, N.Y. Built for Capt. Eber B. Ward as a passenger vessel and put on the Petoskey to Mackinaw line. Accommodations for 75 passengers. Her life as a passenger vessel didn't last long. The year following her launch (1875) found her engaged to tow on rivers.
