As the Government Engineer had no boat at his disposal for the purpose, a patrol boat was hired at the expense of the As- sociation and kept in commission until the close of navi- gation. There is no question that had it not been for the ser- vices rendered by the patrol boat, we would have had several serious accidents in this channel which would have cost a large amount of money, and to my mind has clearly demonstrated the necessity of our keeping a patrol boat in commission during the season of naviga- tion until such time as the Government can furnish a boat and relieve us of the expense. ==========================================================================
