JOSEPH ALEXANDER GLASS, 78, for years one of the best known mariners of this district, died in his home here Saturday. For more than 50 years Captain GLASS had sailed the Great Lakes, joining the marine ser- vice at the age of 13. He commanded his first ship at the age of 21, and subsequently sailed the Stephenson, Pandora, Cavalier, Cataract, Hercules and Naid. He was appointed government gravel inspector here, retiring 10 years ago. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. L. SMITH, Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. CHARLES KEYES, Chicago, and PAULINE GLASS, Detroit; two sons, JOHN W. GLASS and Capt. JOSEPH GLASS, both of this city. Rev. CHARLES GLASS of Lowell, Mich., is his brother. Funeral services were held this afternoon from the residence. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery. ==========================================================================
