DUNCANSON HAS PASSED AWAY HE SAILED ON THE LAKES IN THE EARLY SIXTIES. TWO SONS ARE MASTERS ON MODERN LAKE FREIGHTERS. CAPT. JOHN DUNCANSON, Sr., one of the best known lake pioneers, passed away at Amherstburg early yesterday morning. Death came to him peacefully, but had made its coming known by a gradual decline. He was surrounded by his immediate family when the final summons came. Deceased had lived in Amherstburg, his home, for upwards of fifty years, coming there from Argyle- shire, Scotland. He sailed the clipper ships Ellen Park and T. J. Park in the sixties, carrying pack- age freight from Liverpool to Chicago, and making all way ports. Both of his commands were built at Amherstburg, one being named after the present postmaster, T. J. Park. CAPT. DUNCANSON retired from active work six- teen years ago, and had made his home with some one of his children ever since. For a couple of years the old hankering to get back into marine work led him to act as forwarder for the numerous freight and passenger steamers which plied up and down the river in earlier days. He soon gave that up, however, to enjoy well earned rest. Deceased was the father of three sons and two daughters. All three sons have been preminently identified with the lake marine, and are now sailing giant freighters. CAPT. DON J. DUNCANSON sails the Geo. L. Craig and CAPT. JOHN A. DUNCAN- SON commands the Marshall. His other son JOSEPH has master's papers, though he has not done much on the lakes in late years. With the daughters, MRS. MARY LAMBERT and ELIZABETH DUNCANSON, they are the only immediate survivors, MRS. REFORD, of Toronto; and MRS. LAING, of California, are surviving sisters. The funeral servicese will be conducted from the residence at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow. REV. NATT- RASS, of the Presbyterian church, will officiate, the interment taking place in Rose Hill Cemetery. ========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ==========================================================================
