   [extracts of marine news]
   
              The harbor is again frozen over, and skating is
            in order. - Oceana Times, Dec. 31.
              The practice which some of our exchanges indulge
            in, of mixing items referring to all parts of the
            world, miscellaneously in their so-called "local
            department" is likely to result in misapprehension.
            The above paragraph undoubtedly refers to some port
            in British America and is well enough in its place,
            but when found among the locals of our contemporary,
            would naturally be supposed, by any one not acquainted
            with the facts in the case, to refer to Pentwater. To
            correct any such misconceived opinion, we beg to say
            that Pentwater harbor is not frozen over, but is open
            as far up as Sands and Maxwell's dock, where lies the
            little steamer MAGNET, ready to leave for Ludington on
            the arrival of the next train.
