DETROIT, Mich., Sept. 27 -(AP)- While Lake Michigan was whipped into a fury Friday by winds of gale force, the same storm was sweeping across the state, doing damage to towns and farms in its path. Several persons were reported slightly injured. Barns were unroofed, trees uprooted and windows blown in. Torrential rains were reported in several sections of lower Michi- gan. A factory building in Grand Haven was demolished with an estimated loss of between $40,000 and $50,000. High Winds Sweep Food City. High winds and rain swept over Battle Creek and the surrounding country Friday and caused damage estimated unofficially in the thousands of dollars. Omer Fales, a Cady road farmer, narrowly escaped death when he was blown out of his barn a moment before it collapsed beneath the terrific wind. He suffered a slight leg injury. Garages and small buildings near Battle Creek were demolished and poles of the Consumers Power Company were broken off. Roof Is Ripped Off. One of the buildings of the Challenge refrigerator plant at Grand Haven was partially destroyed by the storm, which ripped off 13,000 square feet of roofing, demolished a wall and broke down the second floor. Other minor damage was reported in Grand Haven. Winds of gale force swept through Detroit Friday night, blowing in numerous windows and uprooting trees. Several large plate glass store fronts were demolished.
