Isabella County Enterprise
October 27, 1880


              SAMUEL McCULLOCH, a young and enterprising farmer
            living about three miles west of Harrisville, was
            shot and almost instantly killed in attempting to
            take a loaded rifle from off a wagon loaded with
            potatoes in bags. In some manner the hammer caught
            on a bag and on lifting up the gun, with the muzzle
            pointed at his breast, was discharged, sending the
            bullet just over his heart. Deceased leaves a young
            wife and relatives.
