R. Page & Co., - 1883 [268] CURTIS TOWNSHIP --------------- At a meeting of the board of supervisors, held in January, 1881, it was ordered that all of Township 25 north, of Range 5 east, and all of Township 25 north, of Range 6 east, be erected into a new township, to be called and known by the name of Curtis. The first township meet- ing was held the first Monday in April, 1881. The first settler in the township was MR. E. D. CURTIS, after whom the township was named. This territory was largely covered with pine, which has been cut off. The soil is principally clay loam, and is especially adapted to the raising of hay and grain; potatoes are also grown very successfully. There are about ten farms in the township. A schoolhouse was built in 1882, on Section 19. =========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ===========================================================================
