           B. S. COLWELL, whose operations in Alcona County have already
        been mentioned, is a resident of the State of New York. He was born
        August 22, 1825, at South Plymouth, Chenango County, N.Y. He mar-
        ried MISS SALLY M. ORR, at Addison, N.Y., in 1845. MR. COLWELL be-
        gan lumbering in the State of New York on a small scale as early as
        1847, and has continued in that business to the present time.
