Near Ceder Creek V.A. Nov 8th 1864 Dear Emma I imbrace this fabourable opportunity of writing you a short letter it has been a long time since I have had a letter from you. Thare is not any news of importance evry thing looks fabourable for our cause thare has been no fighting since the 19th of last month then we won the gratest victory of the war our corp faught the whole of the rebels army for more than four hours we held them in cheack until Gen Sheridan came up with the cavalry and then we drove them and captured all of thare artillery and 5,000 thousands prisoners and 10 battel flags. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Page 2 To day is election day the men is voting while I am writing they are voting for Lincoln almost to a man the soldiers will repudiate McClellan by a large majority. The weather is very cold down hear we have had snow. and plenty of ice, it makes us feel like going into winter quarters, but it will be some time before we will get into quarters perhaps not at all. I will send you some money in this letter you know what to do with it.
