Dear sons and daughter

i take this preasant opertunity to inform you that i am well at this
time and i hope these few lines may find you all enjoying the same
blessing.

i wrote you a letter ____ ____ and you have not ansurd it i want you
to _____ this ____ so you ____ it i have plenty friends here i ___ you
to tell me in letter you have ____ ____ Children and ___ you have son
and are a doing i cannot tell you all i have saw but i have told
mother the most that i have been a doing at this time
John J Beck and myself are Cooking for two meals per day for thirty
seven men i see a greate many things that would(nt?) please you but

white handled knife the other day that i will bring home to you if i
live to get home which i hope i will for i would love to see you but
do not worry your selves for me for i find friends where ever i go

a few words to mother general Buel had a most glorious victory at
perry mill near frankfort he killed and wounded thirty five hundred
