I got a letter from John Witherell last Monday he sed your father was there with him. I wont write much this time for it is geting late and I am tired for i have ben picking berries and to morow I am a going to Dansvill and i will get you a diary and send it to you and let me no if you get it. I have a chanse to Ride to town with Isaac Mitchell, Josiah Mitchells brother [page 2] let me no which one sent the little book. I no you sent the primer. Write as often as you can. good night and may god gard you my dear boys - from your mother Uphema Witherell ---------------------------------------------------------------------- to let you know that I recieved your letter I will write on the same sheet and send it back to you. Camp manasses Sept 7th, 1863 Dear mother I recieved your letter to nite and was very glad to here from you. I am very wel at present but I had a prety narow escape the other day. I went to see Walter. I went on the cars [page 3] and when I got to the station where I wanted to get off the cars did not stop so I jumped of and way I went licket a bbrindle and struck on a stick of timber and hurt my side but not very bad. Walter is detached from the regiment on guard he has got a good place and I hope he will keep it he is twelve miles from here. I will finish my letter this morning it is so fogy that it is almost as bad as rain. mother I want you to send me 5 dolars and some postage stamps and rite as often as you can.
