                          Petersburg, Va July 18th, 1864
                          
                  Dear Father
                               It has been
               a very long time since I
               have heard a word from you
               or any of the family and I
               trust this may find you all
               in good health,  I wish to hear
               from you very much and hope
               you will answer this on receipt
               James was well when I last
               heard from him,  he is in
               Mississippi and is in the
               Cavalry Service, well contented
                      I was slightly wounded
               on 12th May but am now
               quite well and with my Co
               Answer this by Flag of Truce
               or Personals,  give my love to
               Mother, Brother & Sister and believe
               me your Obedient Son E. Baker
