Howell, Hope, Warren Co., N.J. =========================================================================== Alexandria, Virginia March 21st 1862 Dear Cousin Your welcome letter reached me yesterday I was very glad to hear from you I am not very well today so you must excuse me if I do not write you a long letter the boys has all gone out to shoot at the target But me and 2 or 3 others W.S. Allen & J.C. Stackhouse is a playing a game of chess while I am a trying to write yes & try it is. nothing new to write about our troops is 25 miles the other side of Manassas Junction a chaseing up the rebbels while we are here awaiting orders to embark to go further south to hold the rebbels out of some other hole I hope we will see some fighting that is what I wish for we have not --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Page 2 seen any yet but we have seen plenty of little knapsacks drills dress parades reviews inspections &c George B.
