Artillery, to his wife ========================================================================== Near Weldon R.R., Feb 12th '65 My Dear Wife I am well as usual got back from another fight last night near Hatchers Run on our our left about about 6 miles west of this place the fifth Corps had a hard fight and lost lots of men we started last sunday morning it has ben very cold all the time I drove two Days & nights it rained and snowed most of the time we had to carry the wounded about 3 miles so they kept us moving most of the time we have not ben paid yet but the paymaster is [page 2] on the way some of the troops have got their pay so I heard this morn got a letter from sis this morn which I enclose I hope he will come soon for I owe George have got all the Tobac he has sent and sold it will write when we get paid there is no news here guess it would make you feel rather bad to see dead men laying about but we get used to it and think nothing about it see them put 17 in one hole 6 in another &c Give my Love to all D.
