- Tippecanoe County -
Tippecanoe County was created on January 26, 1826, from the Wabash County portion of New Purchase and unorganized territory. It is bordered
by White Count on the north, Carroll County on the northeast, Clinton County on the southeast, Montgomery County on the south, Fountain
County on the southwest, Warren County on the west and Benton County on the northwest. Lafayette is the county seat and largest city.
The Census Bureau reports that the county has a total area of 503 square miles which is divided into thirteen townships.
The first settlers arrived in 1823. Crawfordsville, in Montgomery Couty, was the center of civilization
in the Wabash valley for several miles in any direction and they were obliged to go there for all judicial purposes and supplies.
