JOHN NEWTON CROWE was born to GEORGE W. and CATHERINE JANE CONDRA CROWE on Nov. 11, 1861, near Tompkinsville, Ky. At the age of six years he and his parents came to Orange County, Indiana, where he continued to reside until one year ago. For the past year he has lived in Washington County where he added many new names to his long list of friends. Grandpa, as he was better known by most people, was married Dec. 7, 1882, to REBECCA ELIZABETH MORGAN. Their companionship was destined to be short-lived, for she left him after they had been together only eight years. He continued to keep a home for their four children: CLINT, who was called in 1941; DELBERT and DELLA, twins, who remain to mourn his passing; and ELLA ELIZABETH, who stayed with him only one year. Two unnamed babies had preceded his wife in death. In 1922, under to pastorate of Elder VOLNEY T. TRIMBLE, God found His way into Grandpa's heart at the Briner Springs Church of Christ. Since that time, although he was not able to attend church regularly, he has been a very steady worker for God. For the past several years he has been at home with DELBERT and his family where he answered his Master's call Jan. 17, 1948, aged 86 years, two months and six days. Besides the twins, DELBERT and DELLA, he leaves one brother, HENRY C. CROWE, eight grand-children, eight great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am. Behold thou hast made my days as a handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee; verily every man at his best states is altoghether vanity. And now, Lord, what wait I for? My hope is in Thee. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. =========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more information about Orange County, IN by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/in/orange/ ===========================================================================
