Elliott of the Indianapolis Bar Bowen-Merrill Co., Law Publishers, 1889 An Act for the relief of NATHAN P. GILLIAT, ex-Trustee of French Lick Township, Orange county, Indiana, and declaring an emergency. [Approved January 27, 1887] WHEREAS, it is represented to the General Assembly that on the night of April 1, 1884, the residence of NATHAN P. GILLIAT, then Trustee of French Lick township, Orange county, Indiana, was destroyed by fire, and the sum of three hundred and sixty-six dollars and fifteen cents ($366.15) of the funds of said township were burned and destroyed; and, WHEREAS, It is further represented to the General Assembly that on the night of December 4, 1885, said NATHAN P. GILLIAT, then Trustee of French Lick township, Orange county, Indiana, as aforesaid, was assaulted by masked and armed men and robbed of the sum of six hundred and sixty-five dollars ($665) of the tuition funds of said township, making an aggregate of said losses of the sum of one thousand and thirty-one dollars and fif- teen cents ($1,031.15); and, WHEREAS, Said losses have been entirely borne and repaid to said town- ship by said NATHAN P. GILLIAT, then Trustee of said township as afore- said; and, WHEREAS, A large number of the citizens, voters and taxpayers, consti- tuting a majority of said voters and taxpayers of said French Lick town- ship, have petitioned this General Assembly for the enactment of a law releasing said NATHAN P. GILLIAT from all liability on account of said losses, and authorizing the refunding to him by the Trustee of said town- ship of the several amounts paid by him on account of the loss of town- ship funds aforesaid, and amounting in the aggregate to the sum of one thousand and thirty-one dollars and fifteen cents ($1,031.15) as afore- said; and, WHEREAS, The citizens, voters and taxpayers of said township are alone interested in said losses and in the repayment of the same to said NATHAN P. GILLIAT; therefore, 2333. SEC. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, that NATHAN P. GILLIAT, ex-Trustee of French Lick township, Orange County, Indiana, be repaid and reimbursed by the Trustee of said township out of the township funds for any loss occasioned to, and sus- tained by, him, the destruction of the funds of said township, civil or school, by fire and by his being assaulted and robbed. 2334. SEC. 2. The Trustee of French Lick township, Orange County, Indiana, is hereby directed to pay to NATHAN P. GILLIAT, ex-Trustee of said township, out of the township funds, the sum of one thousand and thirty-one dollars and fifteen cents ($1,031.15), being the amount paid into the several funds of said township by the said NATHAN P. GILLIAT on account of losses sustained by him by the destruction by fire of the funds of said township, and by his being assaulted and robbed of the funds of said township, and the receipt of the said NATHAN P. GILLIAT, ex-Trustee of said township as aforesaid, shall be a sufficient voucher to the Trustee of said French Lick township for any money he may so pay to said NATHAN P. GILLIAT in pursuance of the provisions of this Act. 2335. SEC. 3.
