The hand grenades were freely used, and the flames were extinguished after $250 worth of clothing had been destroyed, and as much damage had been done the furniture. It was deemed necessary to remove the patients in one of the wards, and this was a work of great difficulty, many of the stubbornly re- fusing to go out, and it requiring a great force in some instances to remove them. The origin of the fire is unknown. Several of the employes were severely scorched in suppress- ing the flames. ==========================================================================
