MICHAEL WILSON prose- cuted GOTTLIEB WACHSTETTER for assault and battery, and the defendant was fined one dollar and costs. The evidence showed that WACHSTETTER had a legal grievance, and had he used his fist instead of a mallet, in making the assault, the court would have been disinclined to enforce a penalty. GEORGE CLARKE, charged with stealing a watch, waived preliminary examination. JAMES MATHIAS, RICHARD JOHNSON, JAMES MONROE and PETER BAKER, vags, were sent down to be carefully nurtured at the ex- pense of the county. Nine plain drunks pleaded guilty at long range, and a riotous female gang, from No. 163 West Maryland street, were fined for fighting. They registered as STELLA BROWN, RACHEL LAWTON, FLORA LANDERS, FLORA ROBERTSON, MOLLIE HARTER, and SADIE SHEPARD. A small fine was collected from JOHN HOLLAND for strik- ing his wife, and the court intimated to the complainant that she was not enitrely blameless in provoking the assault. ===========================================================================
