In the name of God Amen I, ARTIMICIA SELF, of said State and County, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all wills heretofore made by me. Item I. I wish my Executor hereinafter named as soon as possible after my death to pay all my debts. Item II. I give and bequeath TO MY DAUGHTER, ELLA PHELPS, WIFE OF JOHN W. PHELPS two thirds of my one half interest in and to a certain promissory note, for the principal sum of fifteen hundred dollars with all interest dated November 26th, 1894 and duly made and executed by WILLIAM JORDAN MY BROTHER AND PAYABLE TO JANE JORDAN MY SISTER and to myself jointly and secured by a mortgage to that tract or parcel of land, situated lying and being in the County of Taliaferro and State of Georgia and being partly in the 608th District, Georgia Militia. Bounded on the North by lands of Frank Mitchell and others, on the East by lands of William M. Parker, on the South by lands of William Howell and lands of Ashford, on the West by lands of W. W. Moore and lands of Freeman lying on both sides of South prong of Ogeechee River and containing seven hundred and fifty acres more or less, said mortgage dated November 26th, 1894 and recorded in Book “I” Folios 200, 201, 202 for record of mortgage in the office of the Clerk of the Superior Court of Taliaferro County Georgia, and also two thirds of my interest in the estate OF SAID WILLIAM JORDAN DECEASED and all my household and kitchen furniture, and all other personal property of every kind and description, which I may own at the time of my death. All of the above described property I give to my said daughter Ella Phelps, to have and to dispose of as she may desire and the same is given to my said daughter Ella Phelps in consideration of the kindness and attention she has shown to me and the care she has take of me during my many years of affliction and helplessness. Item III. I give and bequeath TO THE CHILDREN OF MY DAUGHTER ADA PARKER, DECEASED, one third of my one half interest in and to said note, for the principal sum of fifteen hundred dollars with all interest dated November 26th, 1894 and duly made and executed by William Jordan my brother, and payable to Jane Jordan my sister and to myself jointly and secured by a mortgage to that tract of land or parcel of land situated lying and being in the County of Taliaferro and State of Georgia and being partly in the 608th District, Georgia Militia and partly in the 607th District Georgia Militia. Bounded on the North by lands of Frank Mitchell and others, on the East by lands of William M. Parker, on the South by lands of William Howell and lands of Ashford, on the West by lands of W. W. Moore and lands of Freeman lying on both sides of South prong of Ogeechee River and containing seven hundred and fifty acres, more or less, said mortgage dated November 26th, 1894 and recorded in Book “I” Folios 200, 201, 202 for record of mortgages in the office of the Clerk of the Superior Court of Taliaferro County, Georgia; and also one third of my interest in the estate of said William Jordan deceased, share and share alike. Item IV. I DO HEREBY APPOINT PERCY PHELPS MY GRANDSON EXECUTOR of this my will. In testimony whereof I have set my hand this 15th day of February 1908. [Signed] ARTIMICIA SELF. Rhodes named as a witness to the within writing, purporting to be Artemicia Self’s last will, and being duly sworn, saith that he, with W. W. Haymore and M. H. Pennington at the request of Artemicia Self and in her presence and in the presence of each other, did attest as witnesses the within writing as Artemicia Self’s last will; that the same was signed and published by said Artemicia Self in their presence as her last will; that she was at the time of the attestation and the signing by her of sound mind and disposing mind and memory; that she executed the within paper voluntarily. /s/ G. The will of Artemicia Self, late of said County, deceased, in which you are the person named to carry out its provisions; and you, said Percy Phelps, having taken and subscribed the oath required by law, as the Executor thereof: These are therefore to authorize you, and you are hereby authorized and required, to do and perform all the duties imposed upon you by said will and the laws of said State. Andrews, Ordinary, Taliaferro County, Ga. ====================================================================== **TRANSCRIBER NOTE:** Artimicia Jordan was born July 1829, Greene Co., GA, died about 1909, Taliaferro Co., GA, daughter of Edmond Jordan, Sr. and Nancy Moore. She is buried in Taliaferro County in a small cemetery known as the Jordan- Caldwell Cemetery. Her name is spelled various ways in the records but most often seen as Artimicia. She was married September 8, 1850, Greene Co., GA, to James A. Self, son of William Self and Matilda McGiboney (widow of Thomas Knowles).
