HERMAN MERCER The Christian Index February 9, 1854 Rev. Herman Mercer is no more! The protracted and multiplied sufferings of this servant of the Lord were ended by death, on Friday, 13th January at 6 o'clock, A.M., at the house of HIS SON, GEORGE FRANKLIN MERCER, near Ochussee, Jackson county, Fla., in the 70th year of this age. The venerable AND BELOVED BROTHER, JOSHUA MERCER, with other affectionate relatives and friends, remained with him til his death and returned from their last mournful duties magnifying the power of the grace of God, as manifested in the last days of this long afflicted disciple of Christ. While his senses continued, he uniformly and calmly expressed his unshaken confidence in the great Atonement and although he thought, if permitted to live longer, he could be of further service to this family, he hesitated not to declare his unreserved submission to the will of his divine Master. How glorious to do thus! That our death may be like his, we must copy his life. A biographical sketch of his life contemplated, so soon as the requested materials can be collected. The Albany, Ga., papers will please copy." ========================================================================== **TRANSCRIBER NOTE** Elizabeth Darracott was the third wife of Rev. Herman Mercer.
