ELIZABETH OVERTON MERCER, WIFE OF HERMON MERCER, ESQ. Died in Crawfordville, Taliaferro Co., GA, Fri, the 24th. She was born in Virginia (according to the family register) July 14, 1775. HER FATHER WAS CAPT. THOMAS DARRACOTT who emigrated to Georgia when she was about 10 and settled in this County. HER FIRST HUSBAND WAS THE LATE MAJ. JOHN TERRELL of this place. After he died, she joined Philips Mill Baptist Church. After marrying Hermon Mercer, they moved to Crawfordville, and she moved her membership to the Church in that village and remained there until her death. ========================================================================== **TRANSCRIBER NOTE** Elizabeth Overton Darracott was daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Bickley) Darracott. She was first married to Major John Terrell and after his death, married August 13, 1826, Taliaferro Co., to the Rev. Herman Mercer, brother of famous Georgia Baptist preacher, the Rev. Jesse Mercer (founder of Mercer University). Elizabeth had no children by either marriage.
